Closing Out January (and Letting Winter Be Winter)

Hey Reader,

As January comes to a close, I wanted to pause and take a calm moment with you.

This month always feels long. It is full of people telling us what we need to do to get ready to get through the year. It is full of fresh starts, big intentions, and then the reality of cold mornings, darker days, and winter weather. We have to take charge. ❄️ If you’re in the middle of snow, ice, or just the heaviness of winter, I hope you’re finding small ways to stay safe, warm, and steady.

January doesn’t always end with a dramatic “ta-da.” Sometimes our goals and intentions for the month seem to get derailed or become nonexistent because of everything going on.
Sometimes it ends quietly with unfinished lists, shifted plans, slower energy than we expected. That is okay.

If this month didn’t go the way you imagined, it doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re human who is living through real life, real seasons, and real weather.

As we move toward February, I’m holding onto this reminder:
We don’t need to rush into the next thing. We can transition. And remain calm.

So if today looks like:

  • adjusting expectations
  • resetting your planner without guilt
  • choosing rest because the world feels loud and cold

You’re are on the right path because you are in control of the direction you are headed. Keep going and taking one step at a time.

Thank you for being here with me this month. I’m grateful you take a few minutes to read, reflect, and reset alongside me.

Stay warm. Be gentle with yourself.
And I’ll see you in February 🤍

Be you, be well, be focused,

Shanna

Hey Reader, I almost didn’t go on a walk with my family the other day. It didn’t feel important enough. I had other things I could have been doing at that time. And honestly? It felt easier to just skip it. Everyone else could go and I could get some things done at home. I was still going to be doing something; just not taking a walk. The truth is this: Most midlife moms don’t struggle with motivation. They struggle with decision fatigue. Should I do this activity instead of that one? How long...

Hey Reader, Welcome to Quarter 2! It is very hard to believe we are entering the second quarter of 2026. It is April. There’s something about turning the page into a new quarter that can either excite you or make you feel anxious. Which side are you on? This month is a chance to keep going with intention. Last month for me wasn’t about doing everything perfectly. It was about being present enough to notice the moments that actually matter. I had quite a few of those with everything that went...

Hey Reader, The newsletter is a little behind this week. Well, I am going to blame it on the snow. If focus feels harder for you lately, I want you to hear this clearly: It doesn’t mean you’re lazy. And it doesn’t mean what you’re working toward won’t ever work. If you are like me and in midlife, you are carrying a lot. When we sit down to focus now, our minds won't focus on only one task. They spin through everything else: Our kids. Our spouse. Our parents. Our siblings. The errands. The bills.The...
